A Polícia Federal (PF) deflagrou uma operação nesta sexta-feira, 20, para combater incêndios criminosos e desmatamento em uma área da União no Pantanal, na região de Corumbá (MS). No total, a perícia estima que o grupo investigado gerou um dano de mais de R$ 220 milhões na exploração da área.
O território, de 6,4 mil hectares, é alvo constante de incêndios e, depois, de grilagem de terra com a realização de fraudes junto aos órgãos governamentais.
A região está sendo usada para pecuária. Após buscas feitas na região, a polícia encontrou pelo menos 2,1 mil cabeças de gado na área da União, mas estima que a quantia chega a 7,2 mil animais no período investigado.
Os policiais estão cumprindo sete mandados de busca e apreensão. Os investigados podem responder pelos crimes de "provocar incêndio em mata ou floresta, desmatar e explorar economicamente área de domínio público, falsidade ideológica, grilagem de terras e associação criminosa", segundo a PF.
